WHAT TO DO AND SEE IN MAR DEL PLATA

There are hundreds of options to tour and to enjoy the city, even on a short visit. Here you will find a few glimpses of the things you must see: tours, panoramic views, attractions and shopping and gastronomic tips that will help you know the city and have an unforgettable visit. TOURS WITH PANORAMIC VIEWS Mar del Plata's 47-kilometer coast offers visitors the possibility of enjoying the beauty of the sea in every variant of shape and colour. Some parts of the seaside esplanade split in two levels: upper and lower. In order to get the best panoramic views visitors should ramble southwards through the coast or drive in the opposite direction. Both options are ideal to take excellent pictures. Visitors should stroll along the coast excluding Paseo Costanero Sur where the use of a vehicle is highly recommended. Paseo Adolfo Dávila. From Diagonal Alberdi St. to Balcarce St., Santa Cecilia hill presents a steep rock face where visitors come across monuments to the palaeontologist Florentino Ameghino, to the Emigration and to the poetess Alfonsina Storni, who wrote many poems reflecting her love for Mar del Plata. The Plaza de las Américas (square) extends from the Dr. Arturo Illia pedestrian bridge, an ideal place to get breathtaking ocean views. A wide sidewalk located on the upper level of the esplanade offers amazing panoramic views of Santa Clara del Mar (northwards) and Cabo Corrientes (southwards). Old Picturesque style chalets and the Plazoleta Capitolina (square) with the memorial to those who fell for Italy are the highlights of the area.Paseo Rambla Casino - Gran Hotel Provincial - Paseo Hermitage.  From Patricio Peralta Ramos Boulevard and Rivadavia St. to the Torreón del Monje, the area boasts the most iconic buildings of the city: the Casino Central and the Hotel Provincial. Between both buildings there is a small square with two imposing stone carvings of sea lions which are the symbols of Mar del Plata. Further ahead, facing the Hermitage Hotel until the Torreón del Monje, the esplanade is also called Hermitage. The Torreón del Monje is a listed building, setting of a romantic legend and with gastronomic facilities.Paseo Jesús de Galíndez. From the Torreón del Monje to Cabo Corrientes, the lower lane by the rocks, where the waves break on, is the perfect place to relax and practise land-based fishing. From the upper lane, visitors get breathtaking views of Playa Varese, the ideal spot for water sports. The area boasts restaurants and coffee shops which are famous for their exquisite pastries. Paseo Cabo Corrientes - Playa Chica - Playa Grande. Cabo Corrientes is one of the spots in which the rocks of the Tandilia hill system stretch into the sea. These geological formations can also be seen in Playa Chica (beach) and the Parque General San Martín (park). The panoramic views can be enjoyed from three different places: the lower lane, the boulevard sidewalk and the Rotonda del Golf Club (roundabout). Picturesque style residencies, modern buildings, fast food restaurants and the gastronomic complex called La Normandina are  located in this area. Paseo Costanero Sur - Chapadmalal. Heading south along Ruta 11 (route) from the Punta Mogotes lighthouse to Las Brusquitas stream, there is an area of dunes, beautiful ocean views, woods and beach resorts. Unidad Turística Chapadmalal, a hotel complex with recreational activities and Playa Escondida, the only naturist beach in the city are located in the area.  HALF-DAY AND FULL-DAY TOURS The port, Sierra de los Padres (hills) and Laguna de los Padres (lake) are different areas which are related to the history of Mar del Plata and offer different attractions such as typical dishes, regional products and handicrafts.
